100 000 displaced by clashes in DRC * GENEVA -Fresh fighting between government troops and rebels in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has forced more than 100 000 people to flee over the past month, the Red Cross said yesterday.

* BERLIN – The leader of Bavaria’s governing conservatives announced his resignation yesterday following a dismal state election showing for his party – a key ally of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Erwin Huber said he will step down as leader of the Christian Social Union on October 25.
