Injured firefighter ‘doing well’

THE young firefighter who narrowly escaped with his life during the raging fire that destroyed the historic Turnhalle building in Windhoek on Thursday is recovering steadily.

Nelitu Bras (21), originally from Tsumeb, is still in the intensive care unit of the Roman Catholic hospital, but according to his superiors and hospital staff, his condition is improving. Meanwhile, the Registrar of the SADC Tribunal, Judge Charles Mkamdawire, says the Police yesterday started with a forensic investigation into the cause of the fire, which all but destroyed the main conference hall of the Turnhalle building during the early hours of Thursday morning. The SADC Tribunal has occupied the building since October last year, and the President of SADC, Louis Antonio Mundlane, is currently in the country to plan the way forward for the Tribunal.Mundlane arrived in Windhoek on Sunday.Since yesterday he has been in various meetings with representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice and Trade.”Whether the Turnhalle will be rebuilt I won’t be able to say. That decision can only be made along with the host country. That’s why the president is currently meeting with the authorities, to deliberate on the way forward,” Mkamdawire said yesterday.Meanwhile, the Registrar of the SADC Tribunal, Judge Charles Mkamdawire, says the Police yesterday started with a forensic investigation into the cause of the fire, which all but destroyed the main conference hall of the Turnhalle building during the early hours of Thursday morning. That’s why the president is currently meeting with the authorities, to deliberate on the way forward,” Mkamdawire said yesterday.
