Informal market for Khomasdal, extension of SME centre

THE City of Windhoek is to develop a N$1,5 million informal market at the corner of Mahatma Gandhi and Hans-Dietrich Genscher streets in Khomasdal.

The proposed informal market aims to provide residents of Khomasdal with the opportunity to generate income by selling a variety of products, including handmade crafts. The City Council on Thursday approved the development of this market, and also for construction to start. The City’s Economic Development and Community Service department, which was assigned to find land for the construction of the market, noted that the proposed site is of a sufficient size and located along a busy intersection that will ensure high visibility for the market. The site is also supported by the community and relevant stakeholders, who will contribute to the ownership of the market, the department stated in the proposal to the Council. The Council also said it would spend N$2,5 million on the extension of the SME Industries Incubation Centre in Katutura. The extension is due to significant demand for infrastructure and trading premises for light industrial purposes. The extension will provide trading infrastructure to a total of 20 additional small and medium enterprises. The existing centre accommodates 31 tenants.NampaThe City Council on Thursday approved the development of this market, and also for construction to start. The existing centre accommodates 31 tenants.Nampa
