JULIUS Indongo and Helalia Johannes won the MTC Namibia Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards which took place at the Windhoek Country Club and Casino.
Indongo became the first Namibian boxer to win titles of three different organisations when he beat Ricky Burns of the UK to add the WBA super lightweight title to his IBF and IBO titles in April.
In August however he lost the titles to Terence Crawford in a unification title fight.
Johannes excelled internationally when she came second in the Cape Town Marathon in September while she was Namibia’s top local long distance runner.

Sportsman of the Year: Julius Indongo (Professional Boxing)
Sportswoman of the Year: Helalia Johannes (Marathon)
Junior Sportsman of the Year: Delano Muller (Kickboxing)
Junior Sportswoman of the Year: Charlize van Zyl (Gymnastics)
Coach of the Year: Nestor Tobias (Professional Boxing)
Team of the year: Namibia Under-20 National Rugby Team.
Sportsman of the Year with a disability: Johannes Nambala (Athletics)
Sportswoman of the Year with a disabilty: Lahja Ishitile (Athletics)
Junior Sportsman of the Year with a disabilty: Dian Jansen (Athletics)
Junior Sportswoman of the Year with a disabilty: Olivia Iyambo (Athletics)
NSC Chairman’s excellence award is: Jackie Shipanga.
Development Programme of the Year: Netball Namibia (Coaches and umpire development programme)
Umpire/Referee of the Year: Jackson Pavaza (Football)
Sports Star of the year: Julius Indongo
Sports Journalist of the Year: Othniel Hambapu (New Era)
