Namibia’s 2026 Independence Day celebrations will be held simultaneously across all 14 regions, marking a departure from previous years when events were hosted in a single region or town.
The announcement was made by minister of information and communication technology Emma Theofelus on Monday.
She said 21 March remains a defining moment in Namibia’s history and a time of renewed hope for the young republic.
“March is upon us – a month that not only marks a significant milestone in our history, but also one that brings renewed hope for a young republic like ours.
“I wish to inform the nation that this year’s official Independence Day celebrations will be marked across all our 14 regions,” she said.
Theofelus further announced that the theme for this year’s celebrations is ‘Beyond 35 for a Prosperous Future’, as the country marks its 36th independence anniversary.
She encouraged citizens to participate in celebrations in whichever region they may find themselves on 21 March.
Theofelus said the national preparatory committee will support all regional governors in coordinating arrangements for the nationwide observance.
She emphasised that this year’s festivities are intended to promote unity and inclusivity across the country.
