Independence babies @32

AS WE celebrate 32 years as an independent Namibia, The Namibian newspaper reached out to a few “independent babies” to see how far they have come and what they are up to. Here is what they had to say!

Name: Krestina Katonyala Kuumbwa

Date of Birth (DOB): 21 March 1990

What does being the same age as the country mean to you?

This reminds me of the importance of freedom and how we should be proud of our country and its heritage to maintain peace, stability and also to have a strong bond of brotherhood and patriotism.

What are you currently doing?

I’m an administrator.

Would you say the independence of the country has benefited you in any way?

On that day, we unveiled our new flag and declared the country free at last. Our independence day is of great importance as it is a historical day when we enjoy the birthday, our cultural unity and reignite our love as one people and nation. I got a chance to be educated and complete my studies. We have rights to move freely in our own country without fear and also freedom of speech, just to mention a few.

Name: John Katoole

DOB: 21 March 1990

What does being the same age as the country mean to you?

I am proud I was born the same year with this great nation. Thanks to those who came before us, and may the spirit of freedom continue guiding us to success and glory. Independence is all about empowering others and enabling them to enjoy it too.

What are you currently doing?

I am an administrative officer.

Would you say the independence of the country has benefited you in any way?

Independence of this great nation benefited me educationally and economically.

Name: Frans Uunona

DOB: 21 March 1990

What does being the same age as the country mean to you?

Being the same age as my country is an honour, and it has given me the courage to be a good example to my nation and to make my country proud.

What are you currently doing?

I’m a visual artist.

Would you say the independence of the country has benefited you in any way?

Yes, independence has given me the freedom to go to school with no fear of war because from the tales told, our parents didn’t have the freedom to go to school, or just to play in the street with friends or travel freely.

Name: Rehabeam Halwoodi

DOB: 21 March 1990

What does being the same age as the country mean to you?

Being the same age as the country means the freedom of having the right to be me and express myself. With the freedom our veterans fought for, I really get to be myself without any fear. l can have a religion to follow what I believe in, not what I’m forced to believe in.
