‘Incomplete’ plane crashes, kills pilot

A PRIVATE aircraft crashed in the Mowani Mountain Camp at Twyfelfontein on Wednesday afternoon, killing its 57-year-old pilot, Windhoek resident Wolfgang Rapp.

The plane, which belonged to the Fracorino Rest Camp in the Twyfelfontein area, crashed approximately 120 km west of Khorixas, at around 18h00. According to Police, the plane had not yet been registered with the Namibian Aviation Authority, as it was still considered to be under construction.Engine failure has been cited as the probable cause of the accident.Rapp was the only occupant of the plane, and his body was reportedly burnt beyond recognition. His remains have been transported to the mortuary at the Khorixas State hospital. In July, Rapp’s name appeared in the news when his housekeeper was found dead at his home in Love Street, opposite the Parliament building.Rapp and his wife had returned from holiday in Europe, only to discover the partly decomposed body of 27-year-old Setson Namashana, tied to a chair by his hands and feet, while his mouth and nose had been covered with tape.Rapp laid charges of murder and robbery with the Police, and a week later, two men were arrested in Windhoek for the murder.According to Police, the plane had not yet been registered with the Namibian Aviation Authority, as it was still considered to be under construction.Engine failure has been cited as the probable cause of the accident.Rapp was the only occupant of the plane, and his body was reportedly burnt beyond recognition. His remains have been transported to the mortuary at the Khorixas State hospital. In July, Rapp’s name appeared in the news when his housekeeper was found dead at his home in Love Street, opposite the Parliament building.Rapp and his wife had returned from holiday in Europe, only to discover the partly decomposed body of 27-year-old Setson Namashana, tied to a chair by his hands and feet, while his mouth and nose had been covered with tape.Rapp laid charges of murder and robbery with the Police, and a week later, two men were arrested in Windhoek for the murder.
