Impact of climate change on women tops 58th SADC Plenary agenda

South African National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza says climate change and its impact on women, especially in rural areas, will be given priority at the 58th SADC Plenary Forum in Durban on Sunday.

The meeting is being held under the theme ‘The Impact of Climate Change on Women and Youth in the SADC Region and the Role of Parliaments in Climate Change Mitigation’.

Didiza says they will also reflect on progress made in addressing these challenges in different countries.

“This is a meeting held in different times and different countries who are members of Southern African Development Community (SADC).

“It allows us an opportunity to pick one area and the symposium gives an opportunity to learn from each other on how we deal with those challenges.

“Today’s theme relates to climate change on women and the youth in the SADC region. As South Africa, we felt KwaZulu-Natal is the best location to have such meeting because of how it has experienced inclement weather and disasters,” says Didiza.
