The Erongo police have confirmed that Sarlote Nambahu Haipito (25) has been identified as the woman who allegedly took her own life at Walvis Bay’s Independence Beach on Friday.
According to Erongo police spokesperson chief inspector Ileni Shapumba, Haipito was observed by security guards arriving at the beach and sitting on a bench for a while. She later went to the shore, before going into the public toilets and coming out again. She collapsed a while later.
The security guards on duty reported the matter to the police and the hospital.
Haipito was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The incident occurred at around 18h30.
Haipito’s next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
