I am going home as a happy man – Ya Ndakolo

Penda Ya Ndakolo

The former governor of the Oshikoto region, Penda Ya Ndakolo, says he is walking away from office as a grateful and happy man.

Ya Ndakolo says he has no regrets whatsoever as he believes everything on earth has a beginning and an end.

Ya Ndakolo was the governor from 2004 until 2015, when he was appointed by the late president Hage Geingob to serve as deputy minister of defence.

In 2015, Henock Kankoshi was appointed as the governor of the Oshikoto region until 2020 when Ya Ndakolo took over the reigns until March 2025.

“Everything on this earth has a beginning and an end. I am a happy man and I’m going home as a happy man. I have served for so long and I think it is good to walk away while you still can rather than waiting to walk away when you are no longer needed by everyone,” Ya Ndakolo said during the official handover of office to the new governor, Sacky Kathindi, held at Omuthiya on Tuesday.

Ya Ndakolo said as the founding governor of the Oshikoto region, he is grateful for the leadership of the region and the entire community for being afforded an opportunity to lead and serve the region.

“I could not have done this daunting task without God’s blessings. It was not an easy journey, I had encountered numerous challenges and I really thank God for everything,” he said.

Among some of the challenges he highlighted facing the region is lack of feeder roads, sandy terrains and shortage of potable water.
