Hyundai returns with boxy luxury

When Hyundai decided to upgrade the Santa Fe, they introduced a new approach – breaking from soft and stylish lines for a more boxy shape, characteristic of ultra-spacious and luxury cars.

The car is easy on the eyes for both driver and passengers. First impressions last, and from the moment the doors open, the interior takes you on a journey to discover all its features.

From ample space for all passengers to comfort and style, the vehicle also boasts the driving and road-holding capabilities expected from such an SUV.

The seven-seater, which entered the southern African market in June 2025, landed in Windhoek three weeks ago.

It offers sufficient space for the driver and passengers to take on any long distance without open-road fatigue. Second-row passengers enjoy the luxury of enough legroom to stretch out while en route.

Apart from the space, the manufacturers had passenger comfort in mind, including dedicated air-conditioning controls and settings, cup holders and charging points.

The third row of seats can be flattened to create a larger loading and storage space. The rear windows are also fitted with privacy curtains for extra comfort and protection against the sun.

To add a sense of openness, the vehicle comes with an electronically controlled panoramic sunroof (dual tilt/open slide).

This feature adds to the spacious feel of the Santa Fe. The leather seats are equipped with heating or ventilation controls for added comfort.

The smooth ride is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol-electric hybrid in-line engine, delivering 175kW and 367Nm.

It features a six-speed automatic gearbox to keep the all-wheel drive comfortable on both open roads and during urban cruising.

Top Revs was impressed by the smooth gear ratios and changes in town and on the highway. The performance is equally notable, with the car’s top speed set at 190km/h and a 0-100km/h sprint in under 10 seconds.

Testing the car through its gears to see if the performance on paper matches the tarred road is a thrill. Top Revs gives this performance a double thumbs-up.

For such a sizeable car, the fuel consumption is impressive, with a range of just under 900km from a 67l tank.

Hyundai has not compromised on safety, and the car comes with a wide array of safety features and driver assistance systems.

Wynand Mostert of Hyundai Windhoek says the car comes standard with traction control, six airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist, and lane departure warning, and is fitted with child seat mountings.

The car also features keyless entry and start – another safety benefit.

The onboard trip computer allows the driver to monitor information such as fuel consumption, driving range, time and distance travelled.

Mostert says the car’s appearance is undeniable due to its lines and the distinctive ‘H’ in the headlights.

To add to the vehicle’s uniqueness, the Santa Fe boasts the biggest rear loading door in its segment.

To back the car’s guarantee and service plans, Hyundai offers various service centres and agents across Namibia to ensure professional after-sales support.
