Husband chops off wife’s hand

A WOMAN from Omundaungilo village in the Ohangwena Region was rushed to the Oshakati State Hospital on Wednesday after her husband hacked her with a panga during a quarrel.

Laurentia Ndatoolewe Nangolo (39) lost her right hand and some fingers of her left hand in the attack. According to the Director of Health in Oshana, Dr Naftali Hamata, Nangolo’s condition is serious but stable.The Police have arrested her husband, Levi Ndafelai (38), on a charge of attempted murder.He appeared in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court on Friday, but was not asked to plead.The case was postponed to January 21, and no bail was granted.Chief Inspector Abner Agas told The Namibian that the quarrel started at a cuca shop at Omundaungilo village on Wednesday afternoon.Ndafelai allegedly beat Nangolo with a stick and she reported it to the Police.After being questioned and released, Ndafelai allegedly returned to the cuca shop with a panga.Nangolo tried to run to the Police station for protection, but her husband caught up with her and allegedly hacked her hand off with the panga.Bystanders rushed to Nangolo’s rescue and called the Police, but Ndafelai ran away.He was arrested the next day.According to the Director of Health in Oshana, Dr Naftali Hamata, Nangolo’s condition is serious but stable.The Police have arrested her husband, Levi Ndafelai (38), on a charge of attempted murder.
