With the Junior Secondary Certificate (JSC) and Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) exams currently taking place, Windhoek Technical High School’s (HTS) Grade 10 pupils took time off from the recent school holidays to take part in a study camp during September.
The school hasn’t quite been satisfied with their students’ results and therefore resorted to certain measures to improve their end of year marks. Last year, HTS only received a handful of A and B symbols for the external examinations in comparison to other schools and this year, the school hopes to do better.
“We analysed our Grade 10 and 12 marks and based on the ministerial norm, the requirements are 23 points and higher. We were worried about our learners so we decided to assist and motivate them,” said Walter Louw, Grade 10 guardian and event organiser at HTS.
The purpose of the study camp was also to teach pupils how to draw up a study timetable for themselves and they were supervised during study time. The pupils used the study hall to study in silence and food and drinks were available for them as well.
The weekend-long camp was sponsored by Karnic Distributors, Waltons, Coca Cola, Shoprite/Checkers, Pionierspark Bottlestore, V Tjimunee as well as financial contributions from the Grade 10 parents and general public.
“The exams started on 26 September and are due to continue until the end of October,” Louw said.
Hopefully, pupils have made use of what they learned at the study camp and are implementing it in their exams. Good luck!
