NAMIBIAN international Deon Hotto is playing like a man possessed after capping another fine display with a stunning goal, an assist and the man of the match prize when Bidvest Wits trumped Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 in a South African Premiership clash on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old winger, who signed for Wits from Bloemfontein Celtic in the off-season, found the back of the net in spectacular fashion when his 23rd-minute left-footed pile-driver beat a despairing Itumeleng Khune.
Terrence Dzvukamanja and Gift Motupa scored either side of a Leonardo Castro leveller to make the points safe for Wits, who consolidated their place at the top of the log.
It was Hotto’s second goal of the season after also being on target in Wits’ season-opening 3-0 success over Free State Stars on Saturday.
He attributed his early season purple patch and eye-catching performances to following the game plan, and being encouraged to explore his skills set by head coach Gavin Hunt.
“I’m just sticking to basics. I’m just doing what I was doing throughout the pre-season,” Hotto told SuperSport when accepting his deserved MoM award.
“I’m doing what the coach tells me to do, and adding in my own style and ideas.”
Hotto, however, remains humble, despite his blistering start to the season having generated much hype in SA and back home.
The collective ambition of challenging for honours is more important than individual plaudits, which is why he chose to join the Clever Boys, with a number of suitors after him.
“I’m taking it step by step,” he said. “The reason why I chose Bidvest Wits is because there is a group of players with a lot of medals and cups. I’m looking forward to being a part of them.” – Adapted from kickoff.com
