Hospital killer sent to jail for 44 years

THE brazen knife murder of a young woman in Outjo State Hospital near the end of 2014 has earned her killer an effective prison term of 44 years.

There could be no possible justification for the actions of Hendrik !Nowoseb, judge Christie Liebenberg said when he sentenced !Nowoseb in the Windhoek High Court this morning.

!Nowoseb was convicted on charges of murder and attempted murder on Tuesday last week.

Judge Liebenberg sentenced him to 40 years’ imprisonment on the murder charge and an eight-year jail term for attempted murder. Four years of the eight-year jail term should run concurrently with the sentence of 40 years, the judge also ordered.

!Nowoseb attacked his former girlfriend, Willemina Tsauses (24), with a knife in the room that she shared with a new boyfriend at Outjo on the evening of 6 December 2014.

The injured Tsauses was being treated in Outjo State Hospital when !Nowoseb, again armed with a knife, went to the hospital the following day and launched a second attack on her. He stabbed her to death in the room where he found her lying in bed.

Tsauses was viciously attacked twice over her decision not to revive a failed relationship with !Nowoseb, judge Liebenberg commented during the sentencing.

It was a brazen murder that drew widespread public outrage, the judge said.
