Residents and holidaymakers in the Kavango East region have taken to the Kavango River after temperatures rose to about 28°C on Monday.
With the heat returning, many people were seen gathering along the river to cool off.
Former Kavango East regional council chairperson Damian Maghambai has warned that swimming in the river is not recommended for safety reasons.
“This is hunting season for crocodiles. I would recommend that people use safe swimming facilities at lodges, and Rundu beach where there is no risk of crocodile attacks,” he says.
He also advises those fetching water or bathing in the river to apply traditional safety methods.
“Those fetching water should use thorn bushes to block off crocodiles,” he adds.
