THE Namibia Hockey Union and its sponsor, Bank Windhoek, recently conducted coaching clinics for coaches and learners in the Oshana Region.
The event was attended by 80 junior hockey players from schools in Ongwendiva. Bank Windhoek donated equipment to the participating schools, while the learners also enjoyed lunch on Saturday.
Since 2015 the NHU and Bank Windhoek have been on a mission to re-introduce hockey to all the regions in Namibia and so far the following seven regions have benefitted significantly:
Khomas (Windhoek), Karas (Keetmanshoop and Luderitz), Hardap (Mariental), Kavango West (Rundu), Zambezi (Katima Mulilo) and Oshana (Ongwediva).
Outjo in the Kunene region and Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa region will shortly complete the list of regions that this development programme will visit before the first ever Bank Windhoek Junior Hockey Development Tournament takes place on 5 and 6 October in Windhoek.
All the regions are requested to play leagues at u12 levels in order to prepare their players for the national developmental tournament in October.
Close to 560 new players have been introduced to hockey since the inception of the programme in 2015, while at least 40 coaches have been involved in the event. For any queries contact Erwin Handura at 0811248249 or 0816639992
