Hitman to face SA opponent

CHAMPION boxer Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses will step into the ring in what is expected to be yet another memorable and explosive bout when he squares up against South Africa’s Peter Adams in a non-title fight on October 1.

The ten-round fight will be held at the Ongwediva Trade Fair Centre, where Moses is said to be enjoying a lot of support after he recently clinched the Pan-African World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight title after knocking out South Africa’s Joni Simphiwe in early August. This time, Moses will be tested by a different opponent and he would want to prove that his title-fight victory against the South African boxer was not a fluke.Moses has won 13 fights, with ten knockouts, in his rather short professional career.Coming from the stable of the Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy, Moses has been dubbed one of the best boxers Namibia has produced in recent years and is believed to have a bright future. After his last fight, his trainer, Nestor Tobias, said Moses was ready for any challenger. He said Moses’s combination of speed and power clearly demonstrated his talent and augured well for his future. The slender and soft-spoken Moses told The Namibian Sport in an earlier interview that he has the heart of a lion and any opponent would have to prove that his abilities were genuinely superior to his.Other Namibian, South African and Botswana boxers will trade blows before the main bout.In the welterweight category, Danie ‘Open Fire’ Kashela will be given the chance to extend his winning spree as professional boxer when he takes on South Africa’s Pius Dipheko in a four-rounder.In his last fight, Kashela beat South Africa’s Norman Thisakawe with a fourth-round knockout in Windhoek.Kashela, who weighs in at 67 kilograms, is a wonderful crowd pleaser, but his fierce punches have made him one of the most feared boxers in the country. In the next fight, Wilbeforce Shihepo will face Nelson Phaku in a middleweight fight which will go for four rounds. In his last fight against South Africa’s Samuel Mathebula, Shihepo was just too strong and the opposition decided to throw in the towel in round two.In the undercard fights, several boxers will make their professional debut.Bernard Tjaverua, who hails from Swakopmund, will take to the ring in a lightweight four-rounder against Junias Amunyela from Windhoek.Next up will be Joseph Bernard from Oshakati, who will face Simon Negodhi from Windhoek in a flyweight fight, which is also scheduled for four rounds.Super-middleweight boxer Vikapita Meroro will be put to the test by Elijah Kwenaeetile from Botswana in another four-round bout. The last juniors fight will pit Peteneni Elago from Oranjemund against Leslie Selotswe from Botswana in the bantamweight class. The event will once again be sponsored by Telecom Namibia, which is the biggest financial contributor to the sport alongside the Government, while Air Namibia will serve as co-sponsor.The fight has been sanctioned by the Namibia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board. This time, Moses will be
