Hitman taking it slow

Hitman taking it slow

THE preparations of Namibian lightweight champion Moses ‘Hitman’ Paulus for his upcoming WBA Intercontinental title fight have stalled after his father, Paulus Moses Senior, passed away this week.

The Namibian is preparing for one of his most important fights of his career when he is expected to take on Romania’s Mihaita Mutu in about two weeks’ time. His trainer, Nestor Tobias, told The Namibian Sport yesterday that they have been taking it slow for the past week, as the boxer is trying to cope with the sudden death of his father.Moses Senior died in hospital after a short illness and will be buried in northern Namibia over the weekend.”We want to start at full pace again on Monday, but I think it will be a bit difficult because this loss came at an unexpected time,” said Tobias.Despite that, Tobias said Moses has so far shown great physical stability in terms of fitness and his work rate in the gym has been consistent.”His focus has surely been affected by the death of his dad, but I don’t see a problem of him of regaining that in the next week.He is a very committed boxer,” Tobias said.Moses is undefeated in 16 straight fights and is currently the WBA Pan-African lightweight champion.Mutu will be the first European boxer to trade blows in Namibia and he is expected to give Moses a tough fight, considering his record.Mutu has won 16 fights from a total of 24, a record that shows he has more experience than the local fighter. There are also several undercard fights lined up for the evening, which is organised as a Box and Dine event by the main sponsors of the code, Telecom Namibia.
