KINDLY allow me space to comment on the Swapo extraordinary congress which selected a possible future Namibian President.
The defeat of former minister Hidipo Hamutenya has been met with a skeptical eye in many quarters. The elections were simply not free and fair as they were characterised by fear, intimidation and bribery beforehand.Chopping Hidipo and Mbuende sent a clear message on who was in control – none other than Nujoma.Hidipo ended up as worst off – as he has been labelled a dungeon master, arms smuggler and tool of the imperialist world, notably USA and Britain. It will take time to wash of that dirt.Hidipo has the potential to tip the political scale in Namibia, should he do the right thing by quitting Swapo.Undoubtedly he has shown to have good backing not only in Swapo but to many Namibians outside.Hidipo has definitely the potential to lead Namibia to greater heights – whereas the likes of Angula looked as if he was not a serious contender, demonstrated by his walk-out before the final election process was completed, saying he was “looking forward to being at work on Monday”.For Pohamba it is amazing that even without campaigning for himself, he was still assured of a “presidential seat” after the majority had spoken.Hidipo must do what is right for Namibia – though unfairly defeated – we see in him hope for now and the future of Namibia.Joseph Mulife Muchali Montreal, CanadaThe elections were simply not free and fair as they were characterised by fear, intimidation and bribery beforehand.Chopping Hidipo and Mbuende sent a clear message on who was in control – none other than Nujoma.Hidipo ended up as worst off – as he has been labelled a dungeon master, arms smuggler and tool of the imperialist world, notably USA and Britain. It will take time to wash of that dirt.Hidipo has the potential to tip the political scale in Namibia, should he do the right thing by quitting Swapo.Undoubtedly he has shown to have good backing not only in Swapo but to many Namibians outside.Hidipo has definitely the potential to lead Namibia to greater heights – whereas the likes of Angula looked as if he was not a serious contender, demonstrated by his walk-out before the final election process was completed, saying he was “looking forward to being at work on Monday”.For Pohamba it is amazing that even without campaigning for himself, he was still assured of a “presidential seat” after the majority had spoken.Hidipo must do what is right for Namibia – though unfairly defeated – we see in him hope for now and the future of Namibia.Joseph Mulife Muchali Montreal, Canada
