Heavy rains disrupt water, power at Tsumeb

Heavy rains wreaked havoc at Tsumeb on Friday night, blocking road-ways, damaging infrastructure and leaving some without shelter.

According to Tsumeb municipality spokesperson Stella Imalwa-Nangolo, following Friday’s heavy rain, three electrical poles at the Nomstoub Pumpstation were severely damaged.

This has disrupted the station’s ability to pump water to the reservoirs.

“Our technical team, together with the Central North Regional Electricity Distributor are currently working tirelessly to resolve the issue, but if the situation is not swiftly addressed, water supply to the town may be affected,” she said.

The municipality urges residents to remain prepared for possible disruptions in water service, she said.

Imalwa-Nangolo added that the Tsumeb state hospital is currently flooded.

“Updates will be provided as the situation evolves. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time,” she said.
