Headmaster lifts pupils’ suspension

THE suspension of 40 pupils at the Rooi Duin Primary School at Aranos in the Hardap Region has been lifted and changed to a final warning.

The pupils were suspended for alleged alcohol abuse and visiting night clubs when they returned from holiday two weeks ago. They have now been slapped with final written warnings on condition that they refrain from unbecoming behaviour on and off the school premises. The mass suspension – described as the biggest in the school’s history – came into effect on September 6.School Board Chairman, Hans Uirab yesterday told The Namibian that the decision to allow the pupils to return was taken at a meeting attended by the pupils’ parents, school staff and school board members.Commenting on the lifting of the suspension, headmaster Samango Steenkamp said the final written warnings issued to the pupils had been done in line with standard procedures outlined in the Education Act.He said parents overwhelmingly agreed that the pupils be given another chance, besides other options such as extending their suspension or withdrawing certain privileges.”Let education be the out and out priority,” Steenkamp encouraged the pupils.”Well-disciplined learners can produce good academic results,” he added. They have now been slapped with final written warnings on condition that they refrain from unbecoming behaviour on and off the school premises. The mass suspension – described as the biggest in the school’s history – came into effect on September 6.School Board Chairman, Hans Uirab yesterday told The Namibian that the decision to allow the pupils to return was taken at a meeting attended by the pupils’ parents, school staff and school board members.Commenting on the lifting of the suspension, headmaster Samango Steenkamp said the final written warnings issued to the pupils had been done in line with standard procedures outlined in the Education Act.He said parents overwhelmingly agreed that the pupils be given another chance, besides other options such as extending their suspension or withdrawing certain privileges. “Let education be the out and out priority,” Steenkamp encouraged the pupils.”Well-disciplined learners can produce good academic results,” he added.
