Head-on collision kills three in Ohangwena region

Three people lost their lives in a head-on collision on the Eenhana and Okongo road at Onakalunga at 22h00 on Saturday evening.

A truck carrying 11 head of cattle was travelling from the eastern side and a vehicle travelling from Eenhana each had two people, the driver and a passenger.

Both occupants in the vehicle travelling from Eenhana, confirmed to be cousins coming from a funeral, died.

The truck driver also died, while his passenger was taken to an Oshakati hospital in critical condition.

Ohangwena community affairs warrant officer Andrew Nghiyolwa describes the accident scene as very serious.

“We can’t really tell at this point what caused the accident but it was terrible. The one vehicle was completely crushed under the truck and we had to get cutters in order to remove their bodies,” he says.

Two of the deceased have been identified and their families have been informed accordingly, he says.

Esther Fillemon witnessed the accident scene, which she says has left her shaken up.

“My husband and I were travelling from our farm at Okongo when we came upon the accident. It was terrible… We could see the two passengers were still moving a bit before police came to the scene.”
