Former minister of agriculture, water and land reform Calle Schlettwein has described former Otjozondjupa governor James Uerikua as a brilliant mind with a sharp sense of humour, following the road accident that claimed the Swapo member of parliament’s life on Friday.
Uerikua’s son, Venturo, also died after being transported from the accident scene to an Otjiwarongo hospital.
Schlettwein took to social media on Tuesday to pay tribute to “a brilliant mind”.
“When people in the prime of their lives are ripped away from us, the shock and sadness is so much deeper. Uerikua was indeed in his prime. He was a person with sharp humour; he could imitate people brilliantly, while he had an equally brilliant mind, kind-hearted and always willing to help. My sadness is deep, and our condolences go to the family, who have suffered a double blow,” he says.
Swanu of Namibia on Tuesday said it would “keep the revolutionary torch burning until final victory”.
Swapo held a candlelit vigil in Windhoek on Tuesday in honour of Uerikua.
The MP also served as Zebra Holdings board chairperson.
Swapo on social media says the gathering reflected a moment of remembrance, unity and respect.
