THE ‘See Watt you save’ campaign kicked off in Windhoek yesterday.
This is an initiative of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Electricity Control Board and NamPower. The three organisations are implementing demand-side power-saving initiatives to address the power-supply shortage in the country. The first phase is to distribute 900 000 energy-saving bulbs (CFLs) free of charge. Each paying customer of a town council or regional electricity distributor qualifies for five free energy-saving bulbs. To swap your old light bulbs for CFLs, take along your October 2007 electricity bill, or an AVM Card and the number on your AVM meter, proof of ownership of the residential property and five used incandescent bulbs. There are 10 distribution points in Windhoek, which are all open from 09h00 until 19h00 for the next two days.Distribution points include the Olympia swimming pool, Diaz Fire Brigade, Town House, Wanaheda Office, Okuryangava Office, Khomasdal Office, Parks Office, City Police Headquarters, Katutura Customer Care Centre and the Soweto Office.People need to find out which office they should go to, as certain points deal only with certain parts of Windhoek. For further information, people can phone 205 2711 or 205 2307.The three organisations are implementing demand-side power-saving initiatives to address the power-supply shortage in the country. For further information, people can phone 205 2711 or 205 2307.
