Hardap sets out interventions to improve 2026 academic performance

Hardap education director Paulus Lewin says his directorate will implement various interventions in the 2026 academic year that will put the region in a better place in terms of pupil performance and ranking.

Lewin said this in response to the region’s performance in the 2025 Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary level (NSSCO) and Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS) level examinations, which dropped from 13th to 14th place, nationally.

The director recently said the number of pupils who qualified for AS-level in the region significantly increased from 13.8 % to 25.7 % in 2024 and 2025, respectively, which prompted the directorate to implement a robust five-year turnaround strategic plan at the beginning of 2025 to improve the performance of all grades.

“There is a need to improve the performance of pupils at a foundation level as well as at the junior secondary level, not only at NSSCO and NSSCAS levels. The strategic plan has twelve objectives, which include improving the performance and results of pupils as well as service delivery. Things should be done much faster and shorter at the end of the day,” he stressed.

The director said his office will also focus on the continuous professional development of teachers and all staff across the region, adding that extensive training of all education staff had already started last year.

“This has helped to upskill the staff members to an extent that they can confidently perform their duties”, Lewin said.
