NADINE Jaeger, whose father Michael allegedly assaulted a coach over a week ago, has been axed from the Commonwealth Youth Games team.
Jaeger had been initially included in the team to compete at the Isle of Man from September 7 to 13, however Namibia National Olympic Committee secretary general Abner Xoagub informed The Namibian Sport that she was expelled from the travelling party. The gymnast’s father is said to have attacked Shady Hisham, a gymnastic’s federation coach with a brick during national trials last weekend after she failed to qualify, which prompted the Namibia Gymnastics Federation to suspend Jaeger’s Crete Gymnastics Club. His actions had appeared to have initially forced the NGF to seek special permission from the NNOC to accommodate Nadine, who had lost out to Samantha-Lee Gibbons for the only available slot.’This athlete will not be going. It makes no sense to include an athlete whose club has been suspended by a member,’ said Xoagub, confirming that the NNOC had received notification of the incident. ‘We will only take one gymnast in the stipulated category.’According NGF vice president Ricci Profitt, the athlete’s parents also requested that she be removed from the team.
