Gym peeping Tom case delayed again

THE owner of a gymnasium at Swakopmund, who allegedly peeped at female clients in the dressing room, appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a provisional charge of crimen injuria.

Heinz Laube (29) of the Genesis Gym was arrested in August 2004 after a video containing footage of women and young girls getting changed in the dressing room was handed to the Police by the parents of one of the gym’s young clients. Laube allegedly replaced a light fitting in the ceiling of the women’s dressing room with a video camera.Laube’s legal representative, Eugene Thomas, on Monday withdrew from the case after requesting that the case be postponed because some evidence was not disclosed by the prosecutor and some documents were disclosed too late to allow the defence sufficient time for preparation.Magistrate Gibson Imbili denied Thomas’ request and insisted that the case proceed, whereupon the lawyer announced he was withdrawing. The case was postponed until September 29 to allow Laube time to obtain a new legal representative.Laube allegedly replaced a light fitting in the ceiling of the women’s dressing room with a video camera.Laube’s legal representative, Eugene Thomas, on Monday withdrew from the case after requesting that the case be postponed because some evidence was not disclosed by the prosecutor and some documents were disclosed too late to allow the defence sufficient time for preparation.Magistrate Gibson Imbili denied Thomas’ request and insisted that the case proceed, whereupon the lawyer announced he was withdrawing. The case was postponed until September 29 to allow Laube time to obtain a new legal representative.
