GWM’s New P Series Pick-Up Launched

n August, Great Wall Motor’s new P Series ‘pick-up’ was officially launched, commencing the dawn of a new era of Chinese passenger bakkies and further enhancing the company’s globalisation strategy.

The P Series will be user-centered, aiming to be a vehicle for everyone and for every situation through a ‘super product’ offering, ‘superior levels of services’ and a ‘super customer experience’ as well as a new alliance programme.

Motivated by an upgrade of consumption and increased consumer demand, this bakkie promises to embrace a new era. Being the first global bakkie offered by GWM, the P Series has made its debut in China, reshaping the global bakkie landscape and aiming to be ranked amongst the world’s top three bakkies available.

In the future, the new P Series will compete head-on with Toyota, Ford and other international mainstream brands in the global market, accelerating the globalisation process and achieve the ‘1-2-3’ strategy as set out at the beginning of the project. That is, to maintain the absolute first place in domestic and export sales; to achieve annual sales of 200 000 units by 2020; and to achieve cumulative global sales of three million units by 2025.

At a press conference, the new P Series, together with outdoor clubs, car modification suppliers, sports brands and NGO organisations, established a alliance, which aims to build an open and shared bakkie community and the ‘strongest ecosphere’ of bakkie culture with users as its centre.

The new logo of the P Series Pick-Up evolves from the letter ‘P’. It has three implications: Power, peak and perfect, symbolising the emotional connotation. This label represents elites who yearn for freedom, dare to challenge, pursue perfection with distinctive features that are trends in this sector currently.

With the comfort of a sedan, the off-road ability of an SUV, the recreational nature of station wagon and the loading capability of light truck, the P Series can be used as four vehicles in one. It offers creature comfort with an experience in mind, vision and heart.

Thanks to the new P71 platform of GWM, the P Series is safer, more comfortable, lighter and more customisable. It may derive more than 100 variants with different sizes, power trains and driving forms.

In terms of car-like specs, it is equipped with six-way electronically powered driver’s seat with heating, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, over 100 sound insulation and absorption treatments, and multi-link rear suspension.

The latest generation of V2X technology is adopted to realise functions including intelligent voice control and intelligent dynamic information services. Equipped with L2 automatic driving technology, lane keeping assist, intelligent driving assistance and other advanced driver assist functions, it may realise aided driving, environment awareness, programmed decision-making and other driver aid functions.

The P Series is equipped with 8AT+ two-litre turbo engine, torque on demand intelligent four-wheel drive, high-strength armoured body, the latest generation of Bosch version 9,3 ESP, 360 view, rear view camera, lane departure warning, intelligent forward view and all-round radars, 12 to be exact.
