Gunners remained atop of the FNB Women Super League log after Saturday’s matches, while there were a few upsets in other matches.

In one of them, Mighty Angels secured a valuable 3-2 away victory over Nust Babes, which satisfied their coach, Petrus Simon.

“I am very excited, it was a very hard game,” he says.

He explains that his side scored first, were pegged back, scored again, and conceded once more before sealing the win.

He adds: “For us to win this game was a really nice because to win away is very important.”

On the goals conceded, he says the opponents equalised “through a very poor mistake from the goalkeeper.”

He adds that players will always make mistakes, saying: “We have to go back to the drawing board and sort out those things.”

Looking ahead, Simon notes that preparation will be key.

“We hope to get six points. That’s our target,” he says.

Beatrice Albertina, who scored all three goals, says she was proud of her performance.

“I’m proud of myself for scoring a hat-trick. It was not easy, but we managed,” she says. “We came from far and we cannot go without gaining any points. Teamwork was what led to our success.

“That ball was far from me but when it was about to reach the goal, I started to make the move and I managed to score.”

She says the goal is to continue winning their matches.

In another upset, Khomas Nampol beat FC Ongos Ladies 2-1, while Julinho Athletic Ladies beat Desert Foxes 4-0.

Mighty Gunners Ladies, meanwhile, remained atop the log after beating Arrows Ladies 3-1, while Unam Bokkies secured a hard fought 4-3 win over Windhoek City.

African Stars Queens had a good weekend, beating VPower Angels 1-0 on Saturday, and Nust Babes 3-0 yesterday morning.

Speaking after the match, African Stars coach Jackson Mabaso said it wasn’t an easy match.

“It was not an easy game, playing two games after travelling more than 700 kilometres to Windhoek. The girls came, were hungrier, they scored goals, we got the points.”

On managing both fixtures, he said: “We managed them tactically very well, they adhered to what we prepared for, everything was on point.”

Mabaso said the new players are adding value to the team.

“They are adapting to the Namibian football.”

He adds that his side never undermines an opponent.

Nust Babes assistant coach Billy Luke said it was “not a good weekend.” He explained that injuries within the team disturbed the game plan.

“Losing two games and conceding three goals after having two clean sheets, it’s a disaster for the team. It’s a setback,” he said.”We need to go back to the drawing board… check with our defensive structures.”

He added that fatigue also affected the teams performance, adding that more training is needed to prepare for the upcoming matches.

In another fixture yesterday, VPower Angels FC brought Mighty Angels back to earth by thrashing them 5-0.
