Growing boxing club hosts first annual awards

Morning Star Boxing Academy hosted its Annual Sports Awards for the 2025 season on 7th February 2026 in Grootfontein.

The Academy was founded in 2019 and is run completely by volunteers who fund the club out of their personal finances, it is free to attend with a vision that combines elite athletic development with community building, character formation, and, most importantly, the development of safe, inclusive, and accessible environments for all children and young adults to develop in the sport. 

The club is operated under the guidance of founder, chairman and head coach Johannes Shilimedimo, Tim Wolstenholme (patron/coach), and Thomas Shipanga (physical conditioner).

This awards ceremony marked the first time the academy honoured its boxers since its establishment and is testament to the high standards the club operates. 

Johannes Shilimedinmo thanked Wolstenholme for his invaluable support. 

“Special appreciation goes to Tim Wolstenholme for his outstanding support of the academy through donations of boxing equipment, financial assistance, and the love he has shown our Namibia community of Grootfontein. His contribution to the growth of the academy and the sport of boxing in Namibia is invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for his continued support,” he said. 

The award recipients for the 2025 season are as follows:

Johannes Ndeitya – Best Junior Boxer of the Season 2025 

(Total: 24F 24W;  in 2025 7F 7 W)

Festus Leonard – Best Youth Boxer of the Season 2025 

(Total: 35F 27W; in 2025 7F 4W)

Petrus Ndeitya – Best Senior Boxer of the Season 2025 

(Total 23F 16W; in 2025 7F 5W)

Jeremiah Shilimedimo – Best Academy Member of the Season 2025 

(28F 25W; in 2025 8F 7W)

Katemo Thomas – Boxer’s boxer of the Season 2025 

(Total 11F 8 W – in 2025 7F 7W)

Martin Jonas – Coach’s Boxer of the Season 2025 

(Total 21F 17W; in 2025 13F 10W)

Toukondjela Ndawedwapo – Most Improved Boxer of the Season 2025 

(All in 2025 6F 5W).

In addition, several boxers received boxing certificates in recognition of their dedication and performance, as many athletes were deserving awards. 

Wolstenholme praised the dedication of Johannes Shilimedimo commenting “What Mr Shilimedimo does for the community of Grootfontein is amazing, none of us would be together today if it wasn’t for him, and he inspires me to want to help more.  Mr. Shilimedimo is like a brother to me and a father to all the boxers and will always have a special place in all our hearts.”

The club is now preparing for the year ahead and looking to build on the success of 2025.
