Govt spends over N$17m on construction of services in //Kharas

THE Ministry of Urban and Rural Development spent over N$17 million for basic services at local authorities in the //Kharas region for the 2020/2021 financial year.

//Kharas governor Aletha Frederick on Thurday  at a briefing said Grunau settlement received N$6 million, followed by Aus settlement with N$4 million.

A further N$481 000 was spent to provide basic sanitation at Aus settlement out of which twenty toilets, including connection and installation of water meters was completed.

Karasburg East Constituency received N$2  million last year with an additional N$2 million this year.

The Karasburg Town Council committed to develop two new extensions to improve access to water, sewer, electricity and roads to create better infrastructure for economic growth and development.

“The local government structures have accomplished a lot in the ||Kharas region in terms of delivering on the promises of serviced land, housing, water and sanitation,” said Aletha Frederik.

During the year under review, Aroab Village Council developed and serviced 54 new plots. This project includes construction of water lines, sewer lines and road infrastructure and was implemented at the total cost of N$3 million.

Noordoewer settlement received N$2 million to construct a sewerage and reticulation network although it is incomplete and another N$1 million was allocated this year to complete the network.

The pump station at Ariamsvlei needed to be rehabilitated and a new sewer reticulation network established for which they received N$2 million.
