The government has spent over N$115 million in infrastructure and support services for Namibians who relocated from Botswana in September last year.
This was announced by minister of agriculture, fisheries, water and land reform Inge Zaamwani-Kamwi during a visit with the returnees at Gam in the Otjozondjupa region on Thursday.
Zaamwani-Kamwi said the investment has gone into the establishment of a reception centre at Gam, installation of modern water infrastructure, a multipurpose kraal, sanitation services, security and will provide food monthly to them.
“To date, the government has invested over N$115 million in this initiative, representing a considerable commitment to its success. These facilities have been developed expressly for your benefit,” she said.
She added that the ministry has also acquired six farms that will be allocated to eligible individuals with livestock.
She said Namibia will support the full integration of the returnees into the society to help them build sustainable homes for current and future generations.
Zaamwani-Kamwi urged returnees to prepare for the relocation to Otjipaheua for the allocation of farming plots by the end of January, adding they will provide transportation.
She called on government offices, ministries and agencies to work closely with the ministry to ensure development of infrastructure is made available.
