Govt ‘needs volunteers’

GOVERNMENT can only address the social problems facing the nation if members of the public lend a helping hand, a Swapo MP said yesterday.

Henock ya Kasita, the councillor for Okaku constituency in the Oshana Region and Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy, said businesses and the public should help Government in tackling these problems. He said the public always looks to Government to provide them with employment, clinics, roads, electricity, water and food, but Government could not address these issues alone. He said it was a good thing that the public voluntarily took part in the construction of the Northern Railway Project.”The voluntary work for the construction of the railway line between Tsumeb and Ondangwa is now complete.Very soon, the work will be extended to Oshikango and Oshakati and other places,” said Ya Kasita. He was speaking during debate on Namibia’s 2006/07 Budget in the National Council yesterday.Ya Kasita also called on the Ministry of Works to make sure that rural roads are constructed properly. He said some roads in the Oshana Region were washed away during the rainy season, mainly because they were built with poor materials. He said some roads, such as the one from Okapya to Eheke and the one from Oshakati to Ompundja, were completely submerged. He was speaking during debate on Namibia’s 2006/07 Budget in the National Council yesterday.
