Govt Must Act Now

IT is disheartening to recall the probe and effort the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister invested in the issue of the food that rotted in Katima Mulilo’s Mpacha Military Base.

And the determination to charge those who were involved in the negligent act. If one looks at how the issue is being handled now, two things come to mind: fear or favour.Because the office of the Deputy Prime Minister is nowhere near levelling charges against anybody despite it having pioneered the investigations; and the Minister of Regional and Local Government is distancing himself from the exercise and says he passed the mantle to the Regional Council. It appears to me no one wants to charge anybody. But why? I do not see the possibility of those involved being charged by the Regional Council at all. These people hobnob a lot and cannot level charges against one other. An external organ from the national Government must spearhead the exercise or else the matter will soon be pushed under the carpet for life. This is where one begins to wonder. When floods strike in the region, those councillors run around to secure humanitarian assistance, and when it is given and donated, it remains out of reach of the needy people and eventually rots.I do not see this as negligence.I do not even know why we elect such people to lead us.They simply fail us.As a person from that region, I am counting on the Government of the day to act without delay. The game plan for Vision 2030 does not have to embrace this kind of irresponsibility.Ntelamo Via e-mailIf one looks at how the issue is being handled now, two things come to mind: fear or favour.Because the office of the Deputy Prime Minister is nowhere near levelling charges against anybody despite it having pioneered the investigations; and the Minister of Regional and Local Government is distancing himself from the exercise and says he passed the mantle to the Regional Council. It appears to me no one wants to charge anybody. But why?
