The government on Saturday honoured 17 police officers who have died in the line of duty over the past seven years.
Home affairs, immigration, safety and security minister Lucia Iipumbu said the officers lost their lives while serving the country and protecting communities.
She spoke during the commemoration of International Blue Day of Remembrance for Fallen Police Officers at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College in Olympia, Windhoek.
“Today, we stand united with the global Interpol community in solemn observance of the International Blue Day of Remembrance for Fallen Police Officers,” Iipumbu said.
She said the day serves as a moment to remember the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and the risks they face while maintaining peace and security.
“It is a day not only of reflection but also of renewed resolve, reminding us of the fragility of peace and the unyielding dedication required to preserve it,” she added.
