Gospel singer scoops four international award nominations

LOCAL gospel singer Ruth !Haosemas (27) has been nominated in four categories in the Mpumakoloni International Gospel Music Awards (MKIGMA) hosted in South Africa.

The nominations are for her songs ‘Follow You’ and ‘Heavenly Peace’.

Both were produced by DJ Kallo On The Beat.

DJ Kallo is also behind the hits of award-winning artists Kalux and Adora.

!Haosemas’ nominations include one for the best gospel video, best gospel artist of the year, best newcomer, and best female artist.

“I am honoured and grateful to God to be part of the MKIGMA awards. This is a platform for exposing Namibian gospel music internationally,” she said on Monday.

!Haosemas says her team, the Holy Spirit National Movement, initially entered her songs in two categories only, but the judges nominated her in two additional categories.

She says the nominations mark the beginning of taking Namibian gospel outside the country’s borders.

“I’m proud of my team. It has not been an easy musical journey, but God has been faithful to us,” she says.

“I’m honoured and grateful for the support from my fans. My heart is filled with joy. Unfortunately you will not be able to vote, since the winners are determined by the judges only.”

!Haosemas says God’s grace has gotten her this far.

She advises aspiring artists to make the most of every moment they have by doing what makes them happy.

With God, absolutely anything is possible, she believes.

“Don’t limit God’s ability to use you,” she says.

!Haosemas’ sister Khwezi Tjivera, also a gospel singer, won an award for the best female artist in the same awards in 2019.

The two will perform together at the award ceremony in Gqeberha, South Africa, in November.
