Goreangab murder case postponed

THE trial of Domingo Zuze Da Costa (35) and Joseph Ndyatu (29), the two men accused of murdering 35-year-old German national Ralph Kohnke in Windhoek late last year, was postponed for a third time yesterday.

The Police investigation had not been completed, the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court heard yesterday, and the two were told to return to the stand on September 5. The body of Kohnke, General Manager of the Namibian Aviation Training Academy, was found behind the Goreangab Dam in Windhoek just three days before the new year.Police reported then that the discovery of Kohnke’s body led them to his home in Windhoek West, where they found a blood-smeared kitchen, bundles of what was believed to be counterfeit money wrapped in black refuse bags, and a brick presumed to be the murder weapon. Two days earlier, Kohnke’s stolen Toyota Condor was discovered by community members in Wanaheda, who drove the car to the Windhoek Police station.Da Costa and Ndyatu were arrested within a day of one another less than a week later.According to the Police, Da Costa, who was arrested in Windhoek’s Central Business District, has already admitted his guilt in the affair. Both men remain in custody despite recent bail applications, which were denied. They face charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, violation of a corpse and incitement to commit an offence.
