Good rainy season predicted

DURING his weather predictions at the annual Agricultural Outlook Conference, well-known weather prophet Johan van den Berg was positive that Southern Africa’s chances for good rain, including Namibia, are positive.

According to the latest newsletter of the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) all indications such as the drought in Russia, the floods in Pakistan and India indicate that it is a La Nina year. The sea temperature in the Pacific Ocean, which is used as ENSO model for weather predictions, is cooler than the average temperature, which is a positive sign, the newsletter stated.’Thus an above average rainfall is predicted for Namibia for October, November and December 2010 as well as for January, February and March 2011. It seems that in the second half of the rainy season the western and southern parts will receive better rain. ‘Van den Berg however mentioned that the rainy season for Namibia will start a bit later,’ the newsletter said.
