Good rains bring flooded roads in Omusati

SCHOOL children in the Omusati Region are struggling to get to school, with the gravel road running through the Endjeno oshana under water.

A stretch of about two kilometres of this road runs through the oshana (floodplain) and it has been washed away by floodwater. Pupils who attend the Onamundindi Combined School in the Ogongo area use this road to go to school, while teachers living at Ogongo and working at nearby villages also use it to get to work.Villages around the oshana include Onamundindi, Endjeno, Omanogondjama and Okagongo, all in the Ogongo constituency of the Omusati Region.The principal of Onamundindi School, Vitalis Nemushi, blames the Roads Contractor Company (RCC) for not doing a proper job when building the road in 2003.Nemushi said the RCC had already been asked to elevate the level of the road but they did not do it.He said there are about 100 students from Onamundindi area who go to school at Ogongo, which has two schools, the Ogongo Combined School and the Natuyooloke Primary School.On Thursday morning, pupils crossed the floodplain to school with the assistance of the Police, but the water kept rising throughout the day.Good showers fell in several parts of the North on Tuesday evening.On Wednesday morning, 26,7 millimetres of rain was measured at Ondangwa while Eenhana measured 50 mm, Etunda in the Omusati Region 38 mm and Oshakati 22,9 mm.Pupils who attend the Onamundindi Combined School in the Ogongo area use this road to go to school, while teachers living at Ogongo and working at nearby villages also use it to get to work.Villages around the oshana include Onamundindi, Endjeno, Omanogondjama and Okagongo, all in the Ogongo constituency of the Omusati Region.The principal of Onamundindi School, Vitalis Nemushi, blames the Roads Contractor Company (RCC) for not doing a proper job when building the road in 2003.
