Gome scores in Ghanaian draw

A Namibian U23 team drew 1-1 against Ghana U20 in an international friendly match in Accra on Sunday.

Wangu Gome, who recently won the NPL Young Player of the Season award, gave Namibia the lead on 21 minutes but Prosper Kasim put Ghana level nine minutes later.

According to reports, the Namibians are said to have thrilled the crowd at the stadium with their skilful display in the entertaining match.

The game ended with a draw but the Namibian coach Woody Jacobs believes his side should have clinched the victory against their Ghanaian juniors.

“I think we deserved to win the game, we had some good chances to win it,” Jacobs told ghanasoccernet.com.

“We were put under pressure at times by Ghana but I think we managed that quite well. But all in all, I think we played some good football and we deserved to win the game.”

Last Thursday, the Namibians clinched a 1-0 win over Ghana Premier League side Fetteh Feyenoord. Black Africa’s Leroy Adams scored the only goal of the encounter at the Feyenoord Stadium in Gomoa, an hour’s drive from Accra.

The Namibians will now play Ghana’s national Under 17 side on Wednesday in Accra and at the end of the week, engage Heart of Lion, who were the runner’s up in the Ghanaian Premier League last season. – nfa.org.na
