Brave Warriors midfield schemer Wangu Gome will be donning the colors of Bidvest Wits in the 2015/2016 Absa Premiership season after penning a season-long loan from Namibian side Civics this week.
Gome confirmed the move to the South African side on Saturday, saying that he has a one-season stay with the ‘students’ with an option to sign for longer depending on how the season goes.
“I have a one-season loan with them and if I impress them more, I have the option to sign long-term. It is exciting for me and I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’m committed to improve my game and help the team in our endeavours this season,” the 22-year-old Gome said.
Gome said that playing professional football will push him to deliver even more.
“It is every footballer’s dream to have a professional contract and I’m excited that I will now play football at this level and I believe I will fit in quite well because the coach likes what I bring to the party. I have my way of thinking and playing and it can be a different dimension and option for the team,” said Gome.
Gome was instrumental in the Brave Warriors 2015 Cosafa Cup triumph, winning the Player of the Tournament award.
After the Cosafa Cup tournament he was linked with Supersport United, but
that move fell through.
Gome thanked the Lord, coach Martin Bock as well as Wits striker Henrico Botes for the move to Wits.
Gome will now join up with his Brave Warriors teammates in Windhoek today for the final training camp ahead of the 2017 Afcon qualifier against Senegal on 5 September and he is ready to continue his hard work for the national team.
“We lost the first game, but now we are at home and we need to do well. It won’t be easy but we believe in ourselves and we know that once we click on any day we can get the result we desire which is victory,” Gome said. – nfa.org
