The Golden Lions overwhelmed the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias 66 12 in their Currie Cup qualifying match in Windhoek on Saturday after leading 38 5 at halftime.
The Lions ran in ten tries to the Welwitschias’ two, as the visitors dominated all aspects of play.
They dominated the scrums while their speedy backs regularly sliced through Namibia’s porous defence at will.
Ruaan Lerm, Selom Gavor, Koch Marx and Jacques Nel scored two tries each and Ramone Samuels and JW Bell one each, while Marnitz Boshoff added 6 conversions and substitute Shaun Reynolds two.
The Welwitschias scored two tries through Riaan van Zyl and Darryl de la Harpe with Shawn Kaizemi adding a conversion.
The Lions opened the scoring within a minute when eighthman and captain Lerm crashed over for the first try and although the Welwitschias immediately struck back with a fine counterattacking try by full back Riaan van Zyl, the Lions soon pulled further ahead.
Left wing Gavor raced through for two tries, while further tries by hooker Samuels, right wing Marx and full back Bell put them 38 5 ahead at halftime.
The Lions started the second half where they left off with Marx racing through from the restart, but the Welwitschias struck back with a try by centre Darryl de la Harpe.
The Lions however stepped up a gear and two tries by centre Jacques Nel and another by Lerm completed their one sided victory.
Lerm won the man of the match award.
