Going green for cancer children

THE NamPharm Foundation Trust, which helps children suffering from cancer, has launched a bright green silicon bracelet to help with fundraising efforts.

The slogan on the bracelets is ‘Small Kids, Big Heart’ and they come in different sizes so that children can also support their peers. The idea of the bracelet came from NamPharm’s Financial Director, Frikkie van der Walt, who saw a similar bracelet in South Africa. He bought the bracelet and was told that the money raised went to the US.He then decided to introduce a Namibian bracelet and thus keep the money raised in the country to benefit local children. These colourful bracelets were first made popular all over the world by cyclist Lance Armstrong, whose yellow bracelets also collect money for cancer patients.American singer Melissa Etheridge also has her own bracelet collecting money for breast cancer. The first local bracelet is available at pharmacies throughout the country.
