Goeieman wins Cheetah road race

LONG-DISTANCE runner Erik Goeieman won the third edition of the Golden Cheetah 10km road race in Katutura on Saturday.

Goeieman clocked 30 minutes and 15 seconds, beating Johannes Naitembu in second place, who ran 30 minutes and 23 seconds.In third place came Edward Kauanivi in 30 minutes, 55 seconds.In the female category, well-known Hilaria Johannes beat her rivals when she clocked 35 minutes and 20 seconds followed by Helena Iipinge in second place with 36 minutes and 47 seconds. Rachel Akukothela came third in 38 minutes, 35 minutes.In the veteran men’s section, Daniel Usiku took the honours when he finished the race in 34 minutes and 27 seconds, while Roydon Manale was second in just over 51 minutes.Sigliende Gontes won the veteran women’s section in 47 minutes, followed by Laurencia Elago.Niklaas Eksteen won the masters section for men in just over 41 minutes, while he was followed by Achim Herma in second and Mani Ross in third.The only woman in the masters’ category was Elizabeth Apollus.The junior section for boys was won by David Vries in just over 35 minutes, while Simeon Immanuel was second, while Jekonia Mekondjo ended third.Andrea Ruuso was the only girl who competed in the junior section.For the schools, Justice Nautoro emerged as the champion for boys in 45 minutes, while Sophia Haiyambo was the first to cross in 56 minutes.Herman Simeon was second for the boys, with Naftali Naeman in third, while Mechortlios Hausiku was second for the girls and Elizabeth Nepembe third.Race organiser Willem Andries described the race as a huge success and said it attracted 112 entries.’We plead to the Namibian nation to watch the press for next year’s event to turn up in big numbers to make our sponsors happy that they can invest more in our athletics,’ he said.
