Goals galore for Civics, BA draws

CIVICS strikers were in devastating form at the weekend, blasting a total of eight goals past the opposition in their two wins, results that lifted them from the bottom half of the table of the MTC Namibia Premier League.

Civics first routed Oshakati City 4-1 in their third league match of the season at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday, before they grabbed three more points in their 4-0 win against Golden Bees at the same venue. Civics frontman Floris Diergaardt seemed to have found his old form when he struck twice on Saturday, while Rudi Louw and William Chilufya were also on target.Civics led 4-0 at halftime, with the goal by City only coming late in the second half, courtesy of Frans Kuume, who buried the ball from close range after a cross from Rafa Nuumbembe.Yesterday, Diergaardt was on target again, scoring once, while Chilufya also added his name onto the score sheet, with the other two goals coming from former Orlando Pirates hitman Frans de Muinda and Tugela Tuyeni.Civics only had one point from their 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates on November 12 before going into the weekend’s games and the two wins now give them seven points from three matches.It was not a good weekend for Black Africa, as they only gained two points in their away clashes against coastal sides Blue Waters and Eleven Arrows.BA were involved in a goalless draw against Blue Waters in what was a tough encounter between the two sides at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay on Saturday.Yesterday, BA were once again held to a 1-1 draw by Eleven Arrows at the same venue, a result which has possibly proved disappointing for coach Ronnie Kanalelo.BA now have eight points from their three matches after sitting in second spot behind SKW ahead of the weekend’s matches.On Saturday, Friends also pulled a 1-1 draw against visitors Golden Bees at Rehoboth, while Eleven Arrows fell 3-1 to Orlando Pirates at the Kuisebmond Stadium on Saturday.Yesterday, Friends posted a 2-1 win against Oshakati City at Rehoboth, a result that gave them a total of four points over the weekend.Civics, who fell 1-0 in their first match of the season to Black Africa, proved unstoppable for Oshakati City on Saturday, with the dangerman clearly being Brian Gurirab in midfield, while Diergaardt gave a good account of himself in an effort to keep his place in their next match.Civics substitute Geoffrey Roman was not as influential after he was brought on, but other players such as Chilufya and goalkeeper Sitali Mulife had relatively good performances.Both Civics and Friends moved up the ladder after their great feats, with Oshakati City and Eleven Arrows taking over at the base of the table.Other matches were decided late yesterday, with Blue Waters taking on Pirates at Walvis Bay, while in Windhoek, Ramblers met African Stars, while Tigers were to face SKW at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.Tigers, SKW, Ramblers and African Stars were involved in midweek matches and were not in action on Saturday.Civics frontman
