Globe Films You Can Stream on Netflix

AWARDS season is afoot and the Golden Globes have picked their participants. Illustrating once again that traditional cinema may be on its way out, at least for the pandemic plagued future, streaming giant Netflix leads the pack with 20 Golden Globe nominations for television and 22 for motion pictures.

Earning multiple nominations for ‘The Crown’ including acting nods for Olivia Colman, Gillian Anderson, Helena Bonham Carter, Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin, the bittersweet Princess Diana season earned the most television nominations (6) and is worth a weekend binge.

Also raking in the nods for members of its ensemble, ‘Ozark’ has earned acting honours for stars Laura Linney, Jason Bateman and Julia Garner.

Shining ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest’s’ Nurse Ratched to a high but underwhelming sheen, the Ryan Murphy produced series earned best acting nominations for Cynthia Nixon and Sarah Paulson’s turns in ‘Ratched’.

As for the Netflix film with the most nominations (6), press play on ‘Mank’, a black and white biopic about Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz. With this year’s globes notoriously light on black nominations, viewers can enjoy black excellence in ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ which earned best acting nominations for stars Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman.

Certainly piling up the nominations although nods for ‘Emily in Paris’ and snubs for Spike Lee’s ‘Da 5 Blood’s’ Delroy Lindo have earned ire, Netflix has much award nominated viewing to offer Namibians locked into the streaming service.
