Gladiators lose in DRC

Namibia’s women’s football national side lost 4-2 to the Democratic Republic of Congo in an Olympic Games qualifier in Kinshasa on Saturday, a result which now sees them out of the competition.

Namibia lost 7-5 on aggregate after they held DRC to a 3-all draw in Namibia a fortnight ago. The Namibian side, which improved their play after Jacqui Shipanga was appointed as head coach, went into Saturday’s match with high hopes, but humidity is said to have been a limiting factor in their performance.Meanwhile, the Brave Warriors (men’s team) are expected to face Libya on March 24 in an African Nations Cup qualifier in Tripoli and will play a home tie on June 2.They will play Congo Brazzaville on June 16, before playing away to Ethiopia on September 8.After that, they will head straight into the Cosafa Cup Castle Cup matches, which will be decided in Botswana.
