Gibeon Village Council donates hygiene items to inmates

The Gibeon Village Council on Tuesday handed over personal hygiene items to inmates and beverages to officials of the Namibian Police at the village as a token of appreciation for their tireless efforts to keep it safe.

Handing over the items, village council chairperson Ellerien Isaaks emphasised the council’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the police in curbing crime and building a safer community.

“The initiative reflects our continued commitment to support law enforcement efforts and rehabilitation programmes,” she said.

“Our sustained cooperation is key to maintaining peace and order in Gibeon.”

Isaaks highlighted strategies for reducing crime, including effective communication, sharing concerns, and collaborating on community-benefiting initiatives, while urging the police to conduct regular patrols, particularly at bars and shebeens, and reduce noise pollution.

The chairperson also raised a concern about pedestrians’ behaviour on the roads, saying they often refuse to make way for vehicles and insult drivers, calling on the police to address the matter.

In her message to the inmates, Isaaks said: “We recognise your journey is tough, but we believe in you. You’re not defined by past mistakes.

“This small gesture shows we care and support your rehabilitation. You have a chance to turn things around, learn, grow, and make a positive impact when you return to your communities.”

Warrant officer Ndeleni Abel, who received the items on behalf of the Gibeon Police Station management, said: “We’re overwhelmed with gratitude. We look forward to working with councillors to keep the town safe.”

The donated items include toothbrushes, sanitary pads, deodorants, bars of soap, bottled water and soft drinks, and other essentials.
