THE Gibeon constituency office, through its development fund, recently handed over equipment, materials and goods worth over N$180 000 to 30 people for micro projects within the constituency.
The 30 beneficiaries run small businesses and various projects in the Gibeon constituency.
“You see these people standing in front of you today, but behind them are other people. Most of the people standing here are representing groups, so we are helping over 100 to 150 people,” said Gibeon constituency councillor Jeremia van Neel.
According to Van Neel, all beneficiaries who received equipment submitted applications and went through the process of vetting and selection. The applications are submitted before June every year.
“Resources come from government and they are for all Namibians. We did not take the equipment from one person to give it to another. If you want something you must follow the correct procedures and you will get help,” he said.
He further pleaded with the beneficiaries to use the equipment and material for their intended proposes.
“Take your equipment and use it for the intended propose. We are not police to come to your house and monitor what you do with the equipment. Let us strive for development and let’s see how we can work together,” he said.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, deputy Minister of Lands and Resettlement Theo Diergaardt, who is also councillor for Rehoboth Urban West constituency, thanked the government for establishing the programme through the Ministry of Regional, Local Government and Housing to ensure that constituency offices through the councillor are able to assist communities with various micro projects.
